Chris Whitehouse, a political consultant and expert on medical technology policy and regulation at Whitehouse Communications, an advisor to MedTech suppliers, chair of the Urology Trade Association, and governor of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre, reminds MedTech suppliers of the looming deadline to submit packaging data to the regulator.
With a looming deadline of 1st April, the days are counting down for businesses to submit 2024 packaging data under the new extended producer responsibility for packaging [pEPR] scheme.
Under legislation which came into force on 1 January 2024, large organisations must submit their July-December 2024 data by 1 April and small organisations must submit their January-December 2024 data in one annual submission by 1 April.
All obligated organisations, large and small, must also register with their environmental regulator by the same date. Companies can check here whether they need to report packaging data; and guidance on how to register is here.
The move to ensure that the cost of disposing of domestic packaging waste falls upon MedTech suppliers is expected to hit some parts of the sector hard as packaging must protect products from damage and ensure sterility, so is harder to reduce.
