East Ayrshire partners with Totalmobile to optimise at-home care

East Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership (EAHSCP) has partnered Totalmobile to optimise its at-home care services.

Under the partnership, EAHSCP will implement Totalmobile’s care management and monitoring technology across its Care at Home service.

This will enable the partnership to improve resource management and reduce paperwork, helping tackle operational challenges it faced with existing manual processes.

Councillor Clare Maitland, East Ayrshire Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for health and social care, said: “Our partnership with Totalmobile is a tremendous opportunity to transform our Care at Home service through harnessing digital technology to improve the experience both for people who use services and our staff.

“While we anticipate significant efficiency gains which are necessary within a challenging financial climate within the health and care sector, the main benefit we hope to deliver is a more responsive, consistent and professional service that is tailored to each person and family we support.”

Totalmobile’s platform supports real-time reporting, allowing for proactive planning and service adjustments based on the needs of the service, as well as streamlining overtime payment processing for care staff and vehicle audit checks.

Previously, the Care at Home service had to schedule care staff visits manually, with no automated system to adjust routes or reschedule work when needs changed. The lack of flexibility put additional pressure on staff and led to longer travel times and higher costs.

It is hoped Totamobile’s platform will improve scheduling by optimising routes and reducing unnecessary travel. This will enable staff to spend more time delivering care while making it easier to respond to emergencies.

Craig Ross, senior manager, localities health and care services at EAHSCP, said: “We are very much looking forward to this next step in our work with Totalmobile.

“We’ve already been part of the collaborative Totalmobile user community in Scotland, which has been invaluable to inform our local roll out and how we tailor the system to meet our local requirements.

“This technology will allow our care teams to spend more time with people using our services, making a real difference in their daily lives.”

Chris Hornung, managing director of public sector at Totalmobile, added: “We’re delighted to welcome East Ayrshire to our growing network of Scottish customers. Our technology is designed to drive efficiency while significantly improving service quality.”

In January 2025, John Swinney, first minister for Scotland pledged that the country’s ‘Digital Front Door’ platform will launch by the end of the year.

He also promised that Scotland’s ‘Hospital at Home’ initiative would be expanded to at least 2,000 beds by the end of 2026.
