The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) has invited online applications for admission into various postgraduate courses, including PhD Clinical Psychology for the July session 2025. Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria can now apply with the registration link given below in this article.
The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, is a premier institute dedicated to mental health and neurosciences in India. The NIMHANS is also recognized as an Institute of National Importance. NIMHANS operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It has consistently been a top choice for students aspiring to build careers in Clinical Psychology and mental health in India.
The Department of Clinical Psychology at NIMHANS offers a range of advanced programs, including the M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and Ph.D in Clinical Psychology, designed to train professionals in evidence-based mental healthcare. In the NIRF 2024 rankings, it was placed as the 4th best medical institute in India.
Eligibility Criteria for PhD
The candidates must have accomplished their 2-year Master’s degree in Psychology or M.Phil in Clinical Psychology.
Note: Final-year appearing candidates and those who are waiting for final results may apply for the course but need to submit a marksheet on the day of admission.

NIMHANS provides the stipend too for selected students.
The entrance examination will contain 100 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), and the duration will be 90 Minutes (1.5 Hours). Each question carries 1 mark.
Notably, there is a negative marking of ¼ (0.25) for each wrong answer.
The selection of candidates will be based on entrance exam scores and interview.
Weightage: Entrance Test (70%) + Interview (30%)
The entrance exam will take place in Bengaluru City only.
Application Fee
For general category candidates, the online application fee is ₹1,500. Candidates belonging to the ST or SC category have to pay ₹1,000 as an application fee.
NIMHANS also offers a stipend of ₹25,000/- per month to selected students.
