My previous bottle lasted 5 years. Good to the last grate.
We don’t use a ton of nutmeg, but when we do, we want it to taste and smell fantastic. So I bought a grater and a jar of Spice Hunger whole nutmegs. We use it for lots of baking in the fall and winter, and last year I made Alton Brown’s aged eggnog. The nutmeg tasted fantastic in the eggnog…mixed in, and sprinkled on just before drinking. So I had about 1/2 of a pod left, and thought, “shoot, better get some more before the baking season really takes off.” Popped on Amazon–forgetting when and where I bought my last bottle–and proceeded to look for the best deal. I found this listing, clicked on it, and saw this notification at the top:”You last purchased this in November, 2014.”Wowza. Ok, five years old and still going (smelling) strong? I bought another jar, but still kept using my 1/2 pod leftover from 2014.When the new jar arrived, I grated some just to compare. Folks, it smelled and tasted exactly the same: perfectly fresh, fragrant, perfect, and just waiting to be added to the litany of pumpkin spice goodies that we love for just a few months at a time. (Along with eggnog…and how!)$7 seems like a lot to spend on a jar of spice, but the good stuff truly lasts.

Not the Cheapest, but Excellent Quality
I like it being in a glass jar that will fit on my spice rack. In the jar I received, there are 16 whole nutmegs, minus the shell, or mace, that enclosed them until they were harvested. The aroma is delightful. There is a “best by” date of March 2021 on the jar. I know from experience that it will take me at least 10 years to use all 16 of these and that since I will grind them as needed they will be just fine until they are all gone. I probably use them at a rate of less than 1 per year. Pay no mind to the “best by” date. Oh, and I am sooo glad I bought these just now as here in Georgia the peach season is under way. There’s a recipe on the side of the jar for roasted peaches: 3 large ripe peaches, 1-2 Tbsp. butter, 6 tsp. brown sugar (that’s 2 Tbsp.), Nutmeg. Slice peaches in half and remove the pit. Place in an oven-safe baking pan. Place a small piece of butter (about a tsp.) in the center of each peach. Sprinkle each half with one tsp. brown sugar and bake at 375F for 12-15 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with finely grated nutmeg. (1/8-1/4 tsp should be plenty.) I will let you know how this turns out.

Nice product.
I ordered these for a chili recipe. I know, bay leaves?, chili? That’s what you put in spaghetti sauce? Well, there is a Tex-Mex place I started going to 30 years ago. They shut down and disappeared for over 10 years until their kids decided to re-open it again. This is the only place that made chili I liked better than my own. When I found out they re-opened I ran down and got a bowl of chili which was just like I remembered. However, this time I found a bay leaf in it. Ah hah!. My chili still doesn’t come up to theirs but it is better with this new addition and these bay leaves are top of the line giving a very good flavor.

The best poultry seasoning
I have been buying this particular poultry seasoning for years now. I like the stuff so much I have bought jars for all my family members, who also all happen to cook, just because it is so good. Tonight I made chicken noodle soup and used the Spice Hunter Poultry Seasoning in the soup. This stuff is also great for other things, like making gravy. When I make sausage gravy for biscuits and gravy I use this seasoning. It is perfect for this. And when making a cream gravy for fried chicken I always use this spice blend, it’s a must. I’m kinda serious about making good food. For example, I grind all my own meats, and I make all my own sausage and sausages. This spice blend truly deserves the 5 star rating I gave it.Eric

Clumpy
This ground ginger is a really great value. It tastes good. Smells good. It’s just a bit… Clumpy. And it doesn’t have a special inner lid to sift out how much you want, which is unfortunate. Overall, pretty solid.

Really great bay leaves
I’ve found this brand to always be fresh and flavorful. They are one of the few companies which offers California bay leaves, which are different than the Turkish variety found in most stores. They are not from the same plant and have similar but different flavors.Of the two, the California leaves have a stronger flavor. The Turkish leaves are good too but work well in different foods.California leaves are, in my opinion, much better in dishes that have assertive ingredients, particularly when there is a combination of vinegar and garlic. Filipino adobo would be a good example. Turkish leaves get lost in something like that.I always try to keep a jar or two in the pantry. They’re that good.
