The Well Said series is designed to improve the pronunciation and communication skills of beginner to advanced students from all language backgrounds. It offers a clear course plan covering the essential areas of pronunciation, including stress, rhythm, and intonation–features that research shows help students the most. Additionally, there are over fifty pages of supplemental activities focusing on consonant and vowel sounds. The Intro level of Well Said is a slower-paced course that introduces the most important pronunciation features at the beginning to low-intermediate level. A free Website for teachers and students includes the full audio program.

Easily the best conceived and constructed pronunciation-centered ESL classroom textbook (and series) on the market today. The most recent editions of Well Said and Well Said Intro are substantive improvements on what already were their excellent earlier editions. Linda Grant successfully incorporates the best of research implications that support pronunciation teaching and models both communicative and task-based ways of teaching pronunciation. This is an excellent text to use in pronunciation-centered ESL courses, the audience for which the text is originally intended. In addition, I also find it useful to incorporate within teacher training courses designed to prepare ESL/EFL pronunciation teachers when paired with a teacher preparation focused text (e.g., Celce-Murcia, Brinton, Goodwin, & Griner, 2010; Lane, 2010; Murphy, 2017; Rogerson-Revell, 2011, Walker, 2010). Well Said and Well Said Intro are well worth consideration for course adoption. Both texts serve as reliable models for developers of ESL/EFL course materials, as well. —-John Murphy, Professor of Applied linguistics, Georgia State University
