IHCA event will bring together international experts on tackling climate challenge in healthcare

Ways to implement sustainable healthcare solutions will be discussed at a landmark conference this weekend.

Leading international experts will discuss practical, actionable measures to improve sustainability within healthcare settings as part of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association’s (IHCA) Implementing Healthcare Solutions Symposium.

The symposium will feature a distinguished panel of international and domestic experts, sharing insights and practical sustainability strategies that have successfully been implemented in hospitals worldwide. It will serve as a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, driving meaningful action to meet the twin challenges of sustainability and climate resilience.

The event, taking place in Dublin’s College Green Hotel (formerly The Westin) tomorrow (Saturday) from 12:30pm, will feature Dr Brian O’Connell, an emergency physician based in Australia.

He will speak on the topic of accelerating and amplifying sustainable healthcare, based largely on his experiences as a sustainable healthcare and climate risk lead in New South Wales.

Prof Hugh Montgomery, professor of intensive care medicine at the University College of London, and co-chair of the Lancet Countdown, will give a talk entitled ‘Seven Acts You Can Start Today’.

Dr Ana Rakovac, consultant chemical pathologist in Tallaght University Hospital and member of Irish Doctors for the Environment, will discuss the momentum building in Ireland for sustainable healthcare, while Dr Philip Crowley, the national director of HSE Wellbeing, Equality, Climate and Global Health will contribute under the title: ‘Tackling Climate Issues Drives Better Healthcare’.
